Opportunity: Deputy General Counsel

The Eigen Foundation ("Foundation") is looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial executive to serve as its Deputy General Counsel. This role will report to the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer of the Foundation.

You will be responsible for providing counsel on some of the most complex and interesting legal issues in crypto. We value cautious, balanced advice given with humility, a collaborative spirit, a sense of humor, and integrity.

This is a full-time position that is fully remote in US time zones.

About EigenLayer & Eigen Foundation

EigenLayer is a protocol on Ethereum designed to extend Ethereum's crypto-economic security to new use cases via distributed systems. The Eigen Foundation is looking for a Deputy General Counsel to assist with planning and day to day operations. As Deputy General Counsel, you will be guiding our legal future with precision and insight. Your role is integral to our success, encompassing strategic planning, financial management, and team leadership.

This role is Deputy General Counsel of the Eigen Foundation, which was formed in July 2023 with two fundamental purposes:

1. To foster, incentivize, and support the research, development, launch, use, and adoption of the EigenLayer protocol and ecosystem; and

2. To foster, incentivize, and support decentralized governance of the EigenLayer protocol in a manner that is responsible, results in sustained, high-quality community participation, and is responsive to the concerns, proposals, and directives of the protocol community and its stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide practical, in-depth thought leadership on legal issues and risks relating to crypto markets and the Foundation's operations.
  • Lead transactional work including on grants and other programs launched by the Foundation and closely collaborate with the Foundation’s executive team on milestones and project implementation.
  • Expertly support and collaborate with contributors and community participants on strategy, development, integration and expansion of existing and new protocol features.
  • Promote a culture of legal and regulatory compliance throughout the organization through education, training, and regular communications.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment, independence, strong analytical rigor, clear communication, and pragmatism.
  • Be comfortable challenging the status quo and preconceived notions of what is possible as well as working in areas where regulation is still evolving.

About You:

  • Currently licensed in a U.S. state.
  • 5-8+ years of experience, preferably with some experience in public service, big law, and/or at a technology company.
  • Reasonable fluency in core aspects of one or more of the following areas: securities, banking, payments, privacy, and/or international business entity and governance laws.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in the blockchain and crypto space is a significant plus.
